            ADDICTION USAGE OF DRUGS

In today's world we encounter a lot of problems. Addiction is one of them and one of the most dangerous ones. It is a world-wide problem and it is increasing day by day. It is becoming more and more common among young people. Addiction is an illness which effect somebody's brain.

As  I said above, addiction is increasing among the young people. They start using these addictive thing via their friends and their advices. Parents should be aware of this problem and should do something to prevent it. This problem is seen mostly in big cities. Once a person starts using it, it is hard to give up it but not impossible.
There are some hospitals, treatment centers for those who are under control of addictive substances. And there are a lot of volunteer people who are willing to help these people. And there are some instutions such as Yeşilay in Turkey which fights againt addictive substance usage.
As we are a member of one common society, we all should know how to fight against drug usage and addiction and what to do prevent them and we should help those who are willing to fight against addiction. we must become one-heart against it.

And the speaker gives us some examples about addictive things such as heroine, alcohol, nicotine and morphine etc. He tells us how these addictive elements effect our body and our brain's working.

          THE SOCIAL NETWORK: FACEBOOK

Facebook is a social networking service launched in February 2004. Facebook has over one billion active users, more than half of them using Facebook on a mobile device. Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and send messages each other, including automatic notifications when they update their profile.  Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups and they can give names to these groups such as people from work, people from school, my family etc.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.

Facebook has made a big process since it was founded in 2004. Facebook we use today is really different from its first form. Facebook’s membership was only limited to Harvard founders initally but then, it added support for some other university students before it is opened to high-school students and people over 13 age.

I am one of the people who use Facebook and check it frequently. Some people become so addicted that they spend their whole time on facebook. Sometimes they forget to pay attention other people and things around them. Today especially high-school students use Facebook addictedly. I think this will become a problem among the youngsters because it may affect their daiy life or their grades  as they don’t give much attention to their lessons.

AMASYA THE CITY OF MY LIFE

Amasya stands in the mountains above the Black Sea coast, the city was built in a narrow valley along the banks of the Yeşilırmak River. Although near the Black Sea this area is very high above the coast and has an inland climate, well-suited to growing apples, for which the province of Amasya is famed.

In antiquity Amaseia was a fortified city high on the cliffs above the river. This area has a long history as provincial capital, a wealthy city producing kings and princes, artists, scientists, poets and thinkers, from the kings of Pontus, through Strabo the geographer, to many generations of the Ottoman imperial dynasty and right up to being the location of an important moment in the life of Ataturk. With its Ottoman period wooden houses and the tombs of the Pontus kings carved into the cliffs overhead Amasya is still attractive to visitors.

In 1919 Amasya was the location of the final planning meetings held by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for the building of a Turkish army to establish the Turkish republic following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the First World War. It was here that Mustafa Kemal made the announcement of the Turkish War of Independence in the Amasya Circular.

Amasya is famous for its apples and okra. Amasya apple is called as marble apple(misket elma. It is really delicious and nutrituous. And amasya is the city where the Ferhat and Şirin legend takes place in. It is believed that Ferhat and Şirin lived in Amasya. Ferhat and Şirin was in love but Şirin's mother didn't want their relationship and didn't want them to come together. Şirin's mother said that under one circumstance she could let Ferhat and Şirin come together. The circumstance was that Ferhat would bring to the village water supply. Ferhat opened some holes through the mountains ant brought the village water supply but Şirin's mother didn't let them get together even though Ferhat did what he was told to do.And in the end, both Ferhat and Şirin commited suicide. They became a legend.

In this video, Amasya ,my hometown, is introduced. Amasya's general beauty is seen clearly in this video. The yaliboyu houses located along the Yeşilırmak are really among the most beautiful sceneries. The Harşena Castle is in the middle of the city. It has a gorgeous beauty. A lot of tourists visiting this city don't leave Amasya without seeing this beauty. The Yeşilırmak which goes through Amasya seperates the city into 2 sides. On the road near the river there are some sculptures of the sultans of Ottoman empire. It has a monument in the Yavuz Selim Square. I recommend you to visit this city one time in your life.

WHAT METU MEANS TO ME (MESUT)

Being a student at Metu has always been a dream for me. The people around me have always said that Metu is a great university, it’s one of the best universities. When I learned that I managed to attend to METU, I was not as happy as I had been before the examination, because my exam result came better than I had expected.

I have found what I have expected at METU. Metu has met my expectations. I expected to be in a sociable, informative, respectful school. The atmosphere of metu has shown me of these elements much more than I expected. METU has everything that an university should have. Both the resources and technology it has and the teaching methods and teachers are perfect. The teaching methods that teachers use and the way they behave towards their students make these teachers perfect.

Besides its a lot of advantages, it has some challenges for me. At first, one of them is the transportation. I have to walk almost 35 minutes to come my department. I stay out of the campus. Another one is that the cafeteria is far from our department. We can not have our lunch there. We have to have lunch in the canteen of department. Another challenge is that the campus is too big J i get lost some times if I try to go somewhere I don’t know.

REVISED JOURNAL 1

WHAT IS AN IDEAL UNIVERSITY LIKE FOR ME

An ideal university should meet the expectations of its students. First of all, It should provide its students with the neccessary elements of schooling and teaching. For example, it should be a guide in students’ life, it should be disciplined. It should be collaborative, supportive. Then, It should teach what the modern society wants and requires students to do. It should know what students need and want. Students need and want to have a good life, become an active member of his/her society and they want success, curiosity, originality, and satisfying relationships. University should help the students go through this way. It should know not every student is the same. It should train the students as an attentive member of the society. It should train the students in terms of freedom, democracy and knowledge. It should give the students the knowledge they need in a democratic way. It should regard all the students equally and teach them to be democratic and be aware of equality. In that case we can easily say that metu can be an ideal university because its way of teaching and raising people are almost the same as the criteria I mentioned above.
